"I Became Responsible Since i Had a Child' - Terry G says"

Terry G is a crazy singer who has a lot of street followers judging from his type of music and the personality he puts out to the public. He recently released an album few weeks back and he spoke with Showtime on his lifestyle, music and other issues.

You released your new album few months back. How is the album doing in the market?

At least, it’s selling more than pure water because the reception at the moment, has been very encouraging. Most of the songs in the album are already hits and it’s doing well in the market.

What’s the title of the album?

The album is titled, ‘’Book of Ginger .” It contains over 21 tracks and it’s a diversified album where I took time out to showcase the other side of my career that my fans are not familiar with.

You also launched the album in Abuja, why the choice of Abuja?

You know we had some challenges when I was planning the album launch. I wanted to use Eko Hotel and Suites, but the bill was too expensive for me. I even wanted to partner with some brands but did not work out. I couldn’t afford it so I didn’t want to give up because I have never done an album launch in my life before. That was why I decided to move it to Abuja .

We also learnt that you are planning to tour Europe with your music?

Yes, but it actually has to do with my management who do all the arrangement. They are working on it and I know, it’s an Europe tour. It’s expected to last for nearly a month and it’s going to be fun.

What’s happening to your record label?

So far, I’ve always represented TGP Entertainment Records although I didn’t loud it that much. It’s a label owned by myself and all I do is just to work with my management. I will say we are doing well. As board members, we tried to bring up some brands but there were some issues as at then which came up. Along the line, we are trying to work on other acts apart from mainly just doing collaboration. I think I should do something that would profit me and for now, I am the only one on the label. Although my younger brother is signed to the label for now. I want him to create his own brand as well. For now, we are looking forward to signing on new artistes. This is because it has to do with experience so we will not do something that we will start regretting in future

So what is new about Terry G?

So many things. Now, I have a child; I’m a father. His name is Amaniyi Rex, and with him added to my life, he has given me a new life as a father. And this has made me to see the other side of life. It has put me in my right place because when you are thinking about tomorrow, you will want to be more responsible. His birth has helped me a lot and even helped me to stay away from the negative things of life. Also, I’m now focusing on concert and trying to work on my brand by making it accessible and also trying to shoot musical videos.

Did you cut your dreadlocks?

There was a picture I took which looked as if I have shaved my dreadlocks. Seeing the picture people thought I have cut my hair. I never cut my dreadlocks.

But can you change your style some day?

Change is constant and that’s one thing about life. But for now, base on the fact that I portray this image I don’t think I will do so.

You have been keeping a low profile in recent times, what is happening to you?

It’s just that it gets to a level where maturity comes in and you just have to slow down on something’s unlike when one was still a teenager. So, now that one is mature those things one indulge in, becomes distractions .I became responsible since I had my kid . I looked at life in the other way because it worth a lot for one to be responsible as people will like to be or want to learn from you. Now, music is no more a pleasure but a business for me.

Many people believe you must take something to be high. Is it actually true when it comes to Terry G?

It is not true. Most of the people around me will testify to that. The only thing I do is, I just smoke my cigarette before going on stage. I don’t drink before mounting the stage to perform. This is because drinking exhausts the energy and am this energetic artist that must not take a risk at all. People also know me as an energetic performer, so, anytime I grace the stage I have to deliver.

How are you rocking fatherhood?

It has been fun and I think I am now cool it has given me the chance to relax and think of a positive life as a father. It has helped me to scare away negative friends and is still building as well

So when are you going to take your baby mama to the altar?

We are making plan for that and when it is time we will let you know

How exactly did you meet your baby mama?

I met her in the United Kingdom. There was a concert I attended in London. It was my first major performance in London. That was where we met. I met her through a friend and we just started chatting. What actually happened was that she got amazed knowing I was Terry G. She wanted to know about me; but when she saw the other side of me, she got interested and realised the difference between Gabriel and Terry G. Now we are able to transform the relationship to a family and I’m more responsible with her beside me.

Beverly Osu says she didn't have sex with Angelo in the BBA House

We all saw what we saw but Beverly Osu says we saw wrong, that she never had sex with Angelo in the Big Brother Africa house. She tells  Punch
"Angelo and I never had sex.I didn’t have sex in the house. I never had sex in the house.
But we saw the two of you in the bath tub, making love
We didn’t have sex. It was not an option for us. I don’t know where the people outside got the story from. I was shocked when I came out of the house and learnt that we had sex. I cannot take my bath with a swimming suit. We all take our bath naked. I shouldn’t be singled out because I went for a reality show. I am not different
What of all the other intimate things you did with Angelo? Didn’t you mind that the whole world was watching?
Whatever I was doing with Angelo, I didn’t even think I was on TV. It was just the two of us. We didn’t plan anything, we were just happy. No matter how people will look at it, I don’t regret anything I did with Angelo. I didn’t bring out the video and said everybody should look at me. Big Brother brought out the video.

How come it was Angelo you fell in love with in the house?
I had so many options to choose from in the house but I wasn’t attracted to any of them. But for some reasons I still do not understand, I fell in love with Angelo. I got attracted to him from the first day I saw him. For now, I will see where the relationship will take us.

So, you don’t mind the difference in nationalities?
There is no race when it comes to love. I can always go there and he can come here.

Don’t you think you embarrassed Nigeria in the house?
I was in the house to represent Nigeria. Of all the people that went for the audition, I was chosen. If anybody feels he can do better, he should go and get BBA form next year and apply and get in the house. I know I represented Nigeria very well.
You said so many things in the house. Were they all true or were you looking for sympathy?
I am a shy person. I shy away from a lot of things. But I was ‘open’ in the house. I say what is on my mind. For me to reveal myself to the world, I was just talking to my housemates. I don’t regret anything I said about myself or my family. People have to know the real me.

You mentioned something about a boyfriend that abused you. Were you referring to 2shots?
No. I wasn’t referring to him. For me, 2shots is history. Thank you for reminding me about him.

Is your mother happy with you?
Even if the whole world rejects me, my mother cannot reject me. I love her so much. I am her only daughter and last born. She has always been there for me. I wouldn’t want to disappoint my mum intentionally.
Were there things you did in the house you regret?
Nothing. I don’t have any regrets. I was in a beautiful house. I loved Melvin. He was the best in the house. Meeting everybody in the house was a blessing. I don’t regret anything.
What would you have done with the prize money if you had won?
I would have finished school. I would have started my make-up line. Trust me; I would have done a lot of things. Everybody has a degree. I must get a degree. With my degree, I can go further and do anything I want to do.

“She is Truly an Icon in the Movie Industry” – Nollywood Star Omoni Oboli on “Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde the Trailblazer”

Omoni Oboli & Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde - August 2013 - BellaNaija

Talk about a woman celebrating another woman. Even better a Nollywood movie star celebrating another.
At a time when we hear tales of rivalry in Nollywood, Omoni Oboli proves she truly supports her fellow stars. The Anchor Baby actress wrote an article for Daily Independent on Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde.
Titled Omotola the Trailblazer, she writes on the phenomenon that is Omosexy.
Check it out.
I am Omoni Oboli and I represent Naija!
Our country is littered with success stories that have shaped us into who we are. We have icons that have, through their consistency, paved the way for many of us to walk right through. Many have done it unwittingly by just focusing on achieving their personal goals and in their resolve to break through the stereotypes, disenfranchisements and stigmas they have shown the  rest of us the endless possibilities in their chosen fields.
Others have done it with a plan to leave a trail for others to follow.
I will continue to celebrate these icons that I consider to be the true role models for our youth to emulate in our nation. One such icon is our very own Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde. The original Omosexy who has been tagged the African Magic.
Omotola waltzed into the movie industry before it was nicknamed Nollywood and took her place at the top of the industry as a leading lady like she actually owned the place. She fits into it easily like one who knew that she was born to do this. Her consistency at the top is evidence of her prowess at delivering every role consistently from when she stole our hearts in the movie Mortal Inheritance.
The ever-growing fans of Nollywood have been held spellbound by her believability in all her varied roles. At such a young age when many didn’t know their left from right she understood the responsibility that came with being the leading lady. We saw her cry, laugh, rejoice, explore and display other emotions and adventures that Nollywood has been consistently propelling us actors through in the last 21 years of its existence so that we have come to believe that we know her personally.
With her own style and wits, Omotola has somehow shown us her life and yet kept the personal bit intact, even though she got into marriage at an age many consider to be too young. She has stayed in the marriage when many casualties of failed marriages litter our nation and our industry. She simply defied the odds! Even though pilots are reputed to be philanderers, she has been successfully married to one for many years. Actors have a global reputation of divorces, citing the flimsiest excuses for their actions, but she has been steadfast in her marriage.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not putting down actors for their divorces because many other industries surpass them in divorce rates. I’m just showing that these are perceived notions the world over. Many of them, especially the actresses, have had to endure strenuous relationships due to their celebrity status in the hands of their spouses,. Through it all, our Omosexy remains a pillar of virtue as an example to many that it is possible to stay focused, achieve success in any field of endeavour and still maintain a good family.
She continues to break grounds globally, being celebrated for what we already knew she is, one of the most influential figures of our time! This is due to the impact of our film industry, Nollywood. This industry that many do not yet see its direct and indirect impact on our society, but has broken grounds the world over. This Nollywood that gave the opportunity to many of us to find our voice globally. Where we would have been big fishes in our small pond, we find that the world hangs on our every word and action. This is such a huge responsibility for us to bear, and Omotola has held her place there such that she has been commended for it consistently.
I don’t need to talk about all the awards she has acquired over the years, and I don’t know if she can count how many awards she has received till date, but we know that she has not failed to deliver on most of her performances. The Bible says that a man’s gifts makes room for him and brings him before great men, kings or captains of industries, and it certainly has in her case. She has been honoured for her performance on screen and for her activities off screen. She has lent her voice to many worthwhile causes and championed many of her own.
She is the mother of four children and has managed to stay in shape, not only for the screen, but for her husband. She is truly an icon in the movie industry and in Nigeria as a whole. She has shown that with hard work, consistency, diligence, focus and a desire to achieve, there is nothing that can stop your rise to the top of your game.
I try to celebrate the icons in our nation that are worthy of emulating so that our youth and our people can begin to heal from the damage of inconsistent, morally decadent and corrupt role models that we have followed in the past and start chatting a new course for ourselves by looking to people whose lives have paved a walkway to greatness.
Remember to go out there and start or continue buying and watching our movies, like Anchor BabyLast Flight to AbujaDoctor Bello and many other titles out there that are good quality products. My movie, Render to Caesar, will be in the cinemas sometime in November. It promises to be a must watch for everyone. I’m starring alongside Gbenga Akinnagbe (The Wire, Lottery Ticket), Wale Ojo (Phone Swap, Johnny English), Lucky Ejim (The Tenant), Kalu Ikeagwu, Dede Mabiaku, Bimbo Manuel and many others.
Our future depends on your consistency in supporting us so that we can keep smiling.
